Good Friday Working Bee.

Rowing training at Wentworth this Sunday, 14th March.

Bobbie and Sam from Wentworth Rowing Club have invited members over to Wentworth this Sunday, 14th March, for a training session in conjunction with members from Renmark Rowing Club who will be in town on the weekend. They expect to commence training at around 9-30am and a BBQ lunch will conclude the session. For members interested in coming over to Wenty I would appreciate if you could let me know as it will help organise numbers for training. We will look to leave from the Mildura Rowing Club at 9-00am and head over to Wenty from there. Some members might want to just go over on under their own steam. Members from Wentworth Rowing Club have been great supporters of the activity in Mildura so it would be good to return the favour.

There will still be training sessions from 8-00am at Mildura for those that can’t make the trip over to Wentworth.

Working Bee for Easter Saturday 20th March

The Committee have requested support from members to help with a Working Bee on Saturday 20th March, starting time 9-00am. We will be looking to prepare the clubrooms for our major annual event over Easter. Your support in attending will help may light work and show case our facilities to visiting clubs.

Good Friday Working Bee

Good Friday is a very busy day at the Rowing Club as we need to set up the course and place lines across the river. Could you let me know if you are able to help out on the day. Most of the jobs are completed early in the morning so we can get back home and relax with family members especially those who might have travelled over Easter.

Latest Update - February 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — MRC Web Administrator @ 12:18 am

Mini Regatta

Our next mini regatta is being organised for Friday 26th of February. Members are encouraged to be at the Rowing Club at around 6-00pm so events can be worked out. These events create a great social evening with a bit of friendly competition between members and clubs. A BBQ tea will be available to finish off the evening.

Easter Regatta.

Henley on the Murray at Mildura on Saturday and Henley on the Darling at Wentworth on Sunday

The Clubs annual regatta, in Rowing Victoria’s calendar of events, will be held at Mildura and Wentworth over Easter. These events are quickly approaching. We would like to encourage members to start thinking about getting a crew together and start training if they are interested in participating. If you are looking to compete and would like assistance with organising crews or you would like to be nominated to join a coaching squad please advise by return email.

CLUB ZOOT SUITS

If you are in possession of a club zoot suit (6 still missing since last Easter) could these be returned as soon as possible. (to Louise Skinner louise@stockdaleleggomildura.com ).

We are in the process of doing an order for new zoot suits, hats and polo shirts, please advise Lou if you are interested in purchasing any of these items.

We also have a few second hand zoot suits that can be purchased for $30. New zoot suits will be approx $60.

State Championship at Nagambie last weekend.

You may be aware that 8 members competed at the State Championships at Nagambie last Saturday and Sunday. The events were strongly contested and Mildura Rowing Club was well represented in Finals with a few medals being able to make the trip back home. There has been a huge effort made by all MRC competitors at the Championships with early morning trainings sessions leading up to the weekend, travelling over to Nagambie and holding their own against strong opponents. The Committee of the Mildura Rowing Club is proud of members efforts and especially to their coaches putting long training hours. We would also like to acknowledge family members of the participants for their additional support.

Hopefully we will have a full story and photos available on our website shortly to describe a greater record of events.

Members who competed were
Stef Schneider
Ali Scott
Niki Scott
Giulia Iamarino
Alana Ashelford
Brett Davidson
Coached by Guy Wight

Captains Update - October 09

Filed under: Captains News, general, members info, regattas, social — MRC Web Administrator @ 3:43 am

World Masters Rowing

We have only heard a few stories from the Group in Sydney at the moment. The Ladies had a great row in the four on the Weekend and lead the field for more than half the race in one of the heats. There will be more stories to come as they are enjoying the atmosphere and meeting with all the other athletes so watch this space.

Bendigo Regatta

There will be a few Junior rowing members attending this weekend’s regatta in Bendigo. We wish them all the best to formally kick off our away competition season. There has been a fair bit of activity on the water recently with training and we have been advised that the Dimboola Regatta will be held in November as they have a full river for the first time in about 5 years.

Centenary Celebrations

Following this Sunday’s training session (18th October - say 10-00am), we would like a little support with a working bee for a clean-up around the club rooms. Planning for the centenary celebrations for the following weekend is in its final stage and we are expecting quite a few visitors to the club during the weekend.

Thanks for your support.

Dimboola Regatta - 22nd November

Filed under: Captains News, general, regattas — MRC Web Administrator @ 8:34 am

View from the bridge

The pictures tell it all!

Over last Sunday & Monday September 27 & 28, a combination of an environmental flow and good spring rains brought water down the Wimmera River all the way to the empty Dimboola Weir pool. Over the 2 days the water level lifted some 5 metres and consequently the river at Dimboola is now FULL!

Committee met on Monday night September 28th and resolved to proceed full steam ahead with the conduct of the 122nd Annual Dimboola Regatta, which has been cancelled for the last 3 years due to lack of water. We have notified RV of our request to proceed and are now awaiting confirmation from the Competition Committee - we do not currently envisage any problems in gaining full RV support.

We seek the support of all Rowing Victoria clubs and schools in order to help celebrate the return of rowing and in particular the traditional Annual Dimboola Regatta - we look forward to seeing you on Saturday November 21st at Dimboola.

The Dimboola Rowing Club will also host the Annual Horsham Regatta on Sunday November 22nd - make it a great double header rowing weekend!

Please note that in addition to the usual RV schedule of events, additional events to promote underage/school and masters rowing have been requested for both days: MU17, FU17 and M & F Masters 4 & 8. The Competition Committee will hopefully soon confirm these events.

Please forward this email to all your rowing contacts - we want your support to spread our great news!

Sunday Morning Mini- Regatta Held 13/9/2009

Filed under: Captains News, general, regattas — MRC Web Administrator @ 4:29 am

Thanks you for all participants during the morning. Everyone would agree that it was a much better day for rowing than Saturday. The morning mainly included Double Sculls and Quads/Fours in alternative events. Designated coaches were able to put forward multiple crews to fill Junior Male and Female races as well as members training for the World Masters in mid October. For those that aren’t aware, the World Masters crew is made up by members from Wentworth and Mildura rowing clubs. Other members from both clubs made up crews to create some challenging events under the handicap system.

Some of the highlights including;

·         Seeing a Junior girls 8 training on the water and then compete against each other in a quads scull race.

·         The World Masters mixed crews racing in a quad and a four went down to the wire.

·         Three Junior Male double sculls competing in multiple races to put their training into practice.

Thanks to the coaches for their involvement including Guy Wight, Bernie Currow, Geoff Talbot and Dave Talbot. We expect to start organising crews for the Bendigo Regatta coming up on the 17th October. I would encourage members to speak to their designated coach about participating or contact myself.

Thanks also to WIN TV for their attendance this morning and their continual support for promoting rowing in the local area and for Lindsay Strange for coming down to cook the BBQ.

Our next Mini Regatta will be held on Saturday 24th October at 10-00am and will be in conjunction with the Club’s Centenary Celebrations. Please note your calendar and for some members to work their training program into preparing for this event.

Today was a great start to the season.

Cheers for now.

Coaching, Boat Purchase and Winter Training

Filed under: general, members info, social — MRC Web Administrator @ 7:48 am

Level 1 Coaching Clinic

Boat Purchase.

Winter Training Program (Autumn)

Level 1 Coaching Clinic
Thanks to the support of Rowing Victoria and a Finance Grant from the Department of Planning and Community Development we are holding a Level 1 Coaching Clinic on the weekend of 13th and 14th of June. It has been tentatively booked in for Sunday 14th of June to commence at 8 am. The course should run for about 5 hours. While the training will be on that weekend we are trying to be flexible to allow as many people to attend as possible.

The course will assist people develop their rowing skills and have greater confidence in assisting with the coaching of crews. While out first aim is to provide members with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of rowing we are also looking to develop a Coaching Panel to assist the club move forward to cater for the greater number of people showing interest in the sport. Over the next few months we will be looking to conduct Learn to Row programs, a Schools Holiday Program, Corporate Regatta and our own local competition. To create a Coaching Panel consisting of Beginners, Women and Experienced Rowers would be ideal for our club.

Some members might be interested in developing their own skills and this training clinic would be ideal. Support for people looking to be part of the Coaching Panel would have preference however I would welcome all expression of interest by return email as soon as possible. The cost for members of Mildura Rowing Club to participate will be $30. The normal cost is $117 per person.

People already indicating their participation are;

Guy Wight, Bernie Currow, Warren Lloyd David Talbot, Dave Carson, Pete Sandell, Cynthia Toose, Marg Curran, Louise Williams, Bobbie Pappin, Sam Cross, Rob Ellis.

Boat Purchase.

The Mildura Rowing Club Committee has, with great assistance from Guy, sourced the purchase of a 2007 model Race1 Lightweight Coxed Racing Quad with interchangeable rigging to a Four. We are in the final steps of completing an inspection with Tom Prime, Boat Builder in Melbourne. The purchase price is $10,000 compared to a new boat which would be in excess of $22,000. We are looking for assistance from our members to help with the purchase of the boat. The Boat would be ideal for use by our Female members, Lightweight men and School rowers. The interchangeable rigging is representative of the modern style boats which enables them to double up for Quad and Four racing at the one regatta so less boats to carry away.

To assist with the purchase of the new Boat could you please consider a personal financial pledge to help raise sufficient funds. We are looking for $5,000 being raised from our own membership base with the other $5,000 being met by the club.

Your Personal Financial pledges can be offered by return email. As we have more information on the boat I will forward it to you however in the meantime should you have any enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Winter Training Program
We have had a few enquiries recently of people looking to commence land based training similar to last year. As the evenings are getting darker much earlier I am happy to coordinate this training to commence next week. The training will be conducted on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings commencing at 5-30 but it is flexible for late comers. The training will consist of;

Warm ups – Stairs and Hills,

20 minutes on the Ergo,

20 minutes Various training
Cool Down.

Please let me know if you are interested and what days and time suits.
